UNFCCC COP 27 Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt - November 2022
The Caribbean region showed up strong at COP 27. YME Bahamas was proud to be part of the the Bahamian Delegation that attended COP 27. The YME residence in Sharm-El-Sheik provided accommodations and co-working facilities for members of the African-Caribbean Climate Action Network. This opportunity for networking and co- creation has resulted in 1) A climate negotiations training for Caribbean and African youth 2) Strengthened relationships between African and Caribbean youth for the co-creation of climate solutions and increased financial capacity 3) A prioritised focus on institutional capacity building for climate resilience. Africa's Roadmap to Adaptation through Agroecology - Preparatory COP 27 Meeting - Addis Ababa, Ethiopia September 2023
Members of the Africa-Caribbean Climate Action Network met in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of the Africa AgroEcology Preparatory Meeting for COP 27. Take aways from this meeting includes 1) The importance of anchoring Indigenous Knowledge in our climate actions 2) Small Islands need to have an increased presence in climate diplomacy spaces 3) Young People, Women, and local community members need to be de-risked to enable their access to climate financing. Pan-Africa Climate Justice Alliance Side Event to CHOGM - Rwanda June 2022
The Commonwealth Heads of Government met in Kigali Rwanda in June 2022. The Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance gathered community leaders and youth to devise a strategy for African Civili Society ahead of the COP 27 meetings. This was a strategic meeting for YME Bahamas as it enabled us to cultivate meaningful relationships with youth leaders throughout the African Continent and Island communities. UNFCCC COP 26 - Glasgow United Kingdom November 2021
Climate Solutions became a top priority for the Government of The Bahamas at the end of 2021. YME Bahamas had the pleasure of joining The Bahamian Delegation. During this COP YME worked with UNESCO-IHP to better understand the intersections of fresh water resources in small island developing states. Actions coming out of the COP 26 meeting included 1) the need to strengthen relationships with youth from the Caribbean and Africa 2) Develop Education and Capacity Building Programmes.
